What will be the next weekend getaway? where can we go this weekend? It is always the same question on and on? Not too far and nice place to chill out. We have tried the amazing The Island Lodge in My Tho, and the idea was to try something completely new.
How to get there?
If you love to ride a bike, this is for you. We take the bike from Saigon to Cai Be, 1 hour further than My Tho, 4 hours in total to get to Mekong Riverside Boutique & Spa. To have tried both way (highway and secondary road) and the latter is way much better. By taking the secondary road you are avoiding all the trucks, bus and most of the cars, not talking about the continuous sound of the klaxon. And why is it so nice? It is because you are going through all those beautiful landscapes of paddy field, crossing numerous bridges while gazing at the beautiful Mekong Delta.
To go down to Cai Be, you have to go at the very end of Vo Van Kiet. Then, take the road named QL1A which is national road that drives you to the best part of the road. After driving 15 min on this road, you will have to turn left to get into the secondary road DT833. This road has two quick ferries (6,000 VND per bike per ferry), one in the middle of the way and then, when you will get to Tan An city. From Tan An city, follow the road DT 879 to get to My Tho and then the DT 864 to get to Cai Be.
What to expect at Mekong Riverside Boutique and Spa?
The hotel is quite easy to find and has a great location. Facing the Mekong, you dont hear anything than the noice of old boats on the river passing by. Before we get to the reception, we pass a 100% organic garden, a badminton court and a playground with 2 billards. The welcome was very warm with a clear description of the facilities of the resort. The staff speaks a perfect english, pays attention to details and takes good care of you.
About the room: You have either rooms facing the garden or rooms facing the river. We get the room facing the river. The room is not that big but really charming and big enough if you are spending few days only. You are welcome with complementary bottles of water and fruits plate. Every single rooms has a small terrace with 2 deckchairs. This is a perfect spot to look at this peaceful and breathless Mekong Delta. The bed is big and very comfy, they prepare the bed and put the mosquito net for you when you are away during the afternoon.
About the Restaurant: The restaurant has an indoor and outdoor where you also have deckchairs to relax. They offer a very large choice of dishes, both Western and Vietnamese dishes. The products are all fresh, they go to the local market of Cai Be to get the meats and all vegetables. They also have a good wine list with premium wines, mainly from France and Australia. For breakfast, they offer a buffet with Western and Vietnamese food. They also have a cooking station where you can order eggs in different style and also Vietnamese soups. The buffet offers fresh products like fruits, breads and yogurts, hot and cold dishes such as bacon, potatoes, salad, crepes.
The swimming pool is really nice and big. They have towels at disposal and you can also order food and drink from there. Nearby the swimming pool, you have a point view where you can have a 360 degree view landscape. They have bicycles at disposal for free, for you to go around the hotel or use to go from place to place within the resort.
The room is around 2,000,000 to 3,000,000 depending on the category of the room you book, including breakfast.
Take the time to check this place, it is really worth it. An excellent value for money for sure.
