You are going to spend some time in the center of Vietnam, planning to visit Hue and ride a bike down to Hoi An. If you have read that it is way too dangerous or even impossible to ride a bike from Hue to Hoi An, this is totally wrong. It will be one of the best road trips with your bike ever.
How to get a bike?
You will be easily able to rent a bike from Hue to Hoi An because it is not rare that people do that. You can ask the travel agencies and hotels to help you, or you can contact directly MotorVina. If you visit their website, you will be able to chat directly with them in english. The website is also completely in english, which is very helpful.
They have automatic and manual bikes at disposal. They will charge you from roughly $30/a day for a bike depending on the type and if the motorbike is more or less powerful. If you are traveling with big bags, they offer a transfer service. You will just need to drop it at their office in Hue and will pick it up at their office in Hoi An. This company is truthful, has got great feedbacks, fair prices. The office opens at 7AM. This means that you can only pick up the bike and start your trip at 7AM.
How to plan your road trip?
The agency MotorVina will provide you a map with an itinerary. They dont recommend to do the Hai Van Pass by bike but it is honestly, really fine to do it. Of course, you need to be careful on the road and also have some experiences riding any kind of bikes. They dont provide the bike with full of gasoil, so before you head to Hoi An, be sure you have enough of it.

To go all the long way from Hue to Hoi An, you will need 9 hours. This 9 hours includes the numerous stops you will do to drink water, massage your ass, have lunch; But before everything else, admire and take pictures of the most beautiful landscapes Vietnam has to offer.
Where to have lunch?
What it is recommended to do it is to start the road trip around 9AM. In this case, you will reach Lang Co around 12AM- 1PM for lunch. You can search for Lang Co Beach Resort which has a beach restaurant. It is halfway from Hue to Hoi An. There, you can enjoy fresh seafood and other Vietnamese traditional dishes. It is roughly 600,000 VND for a kilo of fish. Waiting for your courses to arrive, you can enjoy a swim at the beach.
What will you see?
When riding along Chan May Bay you will see the beautiful lagoon. It is a small road where there are no cars riding. It makes the trip even more pleasant. You will see local people living and working. You will also see a lot of vegetation, and ancestral tombs which is often to see in Hue.
After riding along the Chan May Bay, you will cross the Tu Hien Bridge, and this is what you will see.
After enjoying the beach of Lang Co a bit for lunch for example, you will finally reach Hai Van Pass. You will ride up and down and this is what you will see.
When you will be finally reaching Danang, you will be halfway. There is no much to see, you will just ride alongside the beachfront to finally arrive in Hoi An.
